Yochanan (Jn) 11:1-47

 

SYNOPSIS: What is revival? There are lots of religious leaders calling for revival. Do they even know what that words means? Did you know that the word “Revival” does not even appear in the bible? Did you know that the word “Revive” only appears in the TANAK (OT)? In the teaching we are going to look at the Gospel of Yochanan chapter 11 to look at revival of the one who names means “Whom God Helps”. We are going to look at what real revival requires,

THEME 1: UNDERSTANDING WHY EL’AZAR HAD TO BE REVIVED

Part 1 Yochanan 11:1-6 hearing that El’azar is sick. Sh’mot (EX) 16:26-29 two days Part 2 Yochanan 11:7-10 12 hours to do the work in the light. Joh 11:4  On hearing it, he said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory, so that the Son of God may receive glory through it."

Marta G3136 Μάρθα Martha Thayer Definition: Martha = “she was rebellious”

 

These names tell a whole story that we will understand by the end

 

Joh 11:4-6

Sh’mot (EX) 16:26-29 two days

Exo 16:26  Gather it six days, but the seventh day is the Shabbat - on that day there won't be any." Exo 16:27  However, on the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather and found none. Exo 16:28  Adonai said to Moshe, "How long will you refuse to observe my mitzvot and teachings? Exo 16:29  Look, Adonai has given you the Shabbat. This is why he is providing bread for two days on the sixth day. Each of you, stay where you are; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day."

Part 2 Yochanan 11:7-10 12 hours to do the work in the light

Joh 11:8  The talmidim replied, "Rabbi! Just a short while ago the Judeans were out to stone you — and you want to go back there?"

Stumble G4350 προσκόπτω proskoptō  Thayer Definition: 1) to strike against 2) of those who strike against a stone or other obstacle in the path, to stumble

Psa 91:12  They will carry you in their hands, so that you won't trip on a stone.

Psa 119:165  Those who love your Torah have great peace; nothing makes them stumble.  

 

Joh 11:9-10

 

Part 3 Yochanan 11:11-16 angry because they still do not trust in the word Yeshua

Joh 11:15  And for your sakes, I am glad that I wasn't there, so that you may come to trust. But let's go to him." Joh 11:16  Then T'oma (the name means "twin") said to his fellow talmidim, "Yes, we should go, so that we can die with him!"

 

Part 4 Yochanan 11:17 four days, why four days?

Joh 11:17  On arrival, Yeshua found that El`azar had already been in the tomb for four days.

Jdg 11:39  After two months she returned to her father, and he did with her what he had vowed; she had remained a virgin. So it became a law in Isra'el

Jdg 11:40  that the women of Isra'el would go every year for four days to lament the daughter of Yiftach from Gil`ad.

Joh 11:21  Marta said to Yeshua, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

Joh 11:28  After saying this, she went off and secretly called Miryam, her sister: "The Rabbi is here and is calling for you."

Joh 11:33  When Yeshua saw her crying, and also the Judeans who came with her crying, he was deeply moved and also troubled. Joh 11:34  He said, "Where have you buried him?" They said, "Lord, come and see."

 

Deeply moved G1690  ἐμβριμάομαι  embrimaomai  Thayer Definition: to charge with earnest admonition, sternly to charge, threatened to enjoin

 

What does admonish mean - to reprove or scold, especially in a mild and good-willed manner:

 

Then is says Yeshua was troubled - G5015 ταράσσω tarassō  Thayer Definition: 1) to agitate, trouble (a thing, by the movement of its parts to and fro) 2) to cause one inward commotion, take away his calmness of mind, disturb his equanimity 3) to disquiet, make restless

Part 9 Yochanan 11:35-38 doubt that makes Him angry at the people

Joh 11:37  But some of them said, "He opened the blind man's eyes. Couldn't he have kept this one from dying?"

Joh 11:42  I myself know that you always hear me, but I say this because of the crowd standing around, so that they may believe that you have sent me."

Joh 11:44  The man who had been dead came out, his hands and feet wrapped in strips of linen and his face covered with a cloth. Yeshua said to them, "Unwrap him, and let him go!"

THEME 2 TRUE REVIVAL HOW DOES IT WORK?

 

B’resheet (Gen) 45:27-28

Gen 45:27  So they reported to him everything Yosef had said to them; but it was only when he saw the wagons which Yosef had sent to carry him that the spirit of Ya`akov their father began to revive. Gen 45:28  Isra'el said, "Enough! My son Yosef is still alive! I must go and see him before I die."

 

Ezr 9:8  Now, for a brief moment, Adonai our God has shown us the favor of allowing a remnant to escape and giving us a secure foothold in his holy place, in order for God to make things look brighter to us and revive us a little in our slavery.

 

Tehillim (Ps) 119:25-27

Psa 119:25  ד (Dalet) I lie prostrate in the dust; revive me, in keeping with your word. Psa 119:26  I told you of my ways, and you answered me; teach me your laws. Psa 119:27  Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wonders.

 

Tehillim (Ps) 119: 153-157

Psa 119:154  Plead my cause, and redeem me; in keeping with your promise, revive me.

Hoshea 6:1-2

Hos 6:1  Come, let us return to Adonai; for he has torn, and he will heal us; he has struck, and he will bind our wounds. Hos 6:2  After two days, he will revive us; on the third day, he will raise us up; and we will live in his presence.

 

Hos 4:6  My people are destroyed for want of knowledge. Because you rejected knowledge, I will also reject you as cohen for me. Because you forgot the Torah of your God, I will also forget your children.
